Color In The Lines

Color In The Lines

It’s been a hot summer in Southern California, and I’ve been determined to look cute and stay cool as a summer breeze. I had to be strategic about this task because summers of the past, I remained fully clothed because of being self-conscious about my arms. This year I stepped it up a notch by showing some skin. I promised myself to keep it classy because I have too much to lose.

What was my plan to step out of my comfort zone?  Answer – scrolled through my Instagram feed for a fabulous sleeveless dress. The dress had to grace a little below the knees but flowy with an array of lively colors.  It had to be sophisticated enough to pair with a light blazer for dinner with a client. Or a sprinkle of flirty to go out on the town with friends or an elegant dinner with hubby. A bonus would be a beachy vibe for my ventures to the islands or ”ooh la la ” undertone for Europe.

As I was scrolling through my feed, I came upon ’color between the lines’ dress. That’s my nickname for this Ashley Stewart multi-color handkerchief dress. On the model, it reminded me of an island girl heading to a festival. I saw so much potential in the dress. Of course, I added it to my cart but left it in the cart too long that it sold out. All I could hear is the State Farm’s commercial ” Ooh you almost had it…You gotta be quicker than that”.

Let’s fast forward two months ahead in my hometown of Cincinnati. My parents sent me on a grocery run that led me to stop by Ashley Stewart next to Kroger. Guess what I found on the clearance rack? If you said ’color between the lines’ or dress, you are correct. I was so happy that I skipped to the register to check out.

Now it was the time of truth to see if I was ready to step out my comfort zone and let my arms bask in the sun. So I tried the dress on for my realist critics, my parents. They gave me the thumbs-up, and that was enough for me. Honestly, if they weren’t a fan of the look, I was still going to keep it. 2019 is my year to bare my jiggly fat arms. Yep, I said it! Let’s carry on.

I pulled my hair up into a classy bun so the details of the link chain straps could showcase. Next, I adorned my earlobes with yellow rhinestone tassels. To complete the look I stepped into a pair of Vince Camuto gold sandals. Now, I felt fabulous and ready to paint the town.

Are you reluctant to show your arms? Or do you flaunt them? I would love to hear about ways you are stepping out of your comfort zone this summer and making it a hot girl summer.
